Position Summary
This position performs skilled carpentry work in active healthcare environments, including hospitals, clinics, and other medical facilities. This roll is responsible for the installation, fitting, finishing, and repair of interior and exterior building components while maintaining strict infection control, patient privacy, and safety standards. Work includes constructing and installing structures and fixtures made of wood, steel, plywood, wallboard, corner guards, FRP, RVP, and specialty healthcare materials using hand and power tools. This position will work independently with minimal supervision, reads and interprets healthcare construction plans and specifications, and ensures all work is completed safely, accurately, and with minimal disruption to patients, staff, and facility operations.
Responsibilities
- Proficiently reads, understands, and implements blueprints, plans, specifications, shop drawings, and healthcare facility details
- Performs carpentry work in occupied healthcare environments while maintaining infection control and patient safety standards
- Installs healthcare specific materials including corner guards, crash rails, FRP, RVP, wall protection systems, and specialty casework
- Responsible for accurate measurement, layout, and placement of building materials per specifications and project schedules
- Install commercial grade doors, frames, and hardware including panic hardware, closers, electronic hardware, and healthcare-rated openings
- Installs intricate casework, trim work, crown molding, and millwork in patient care and clinic environments
- Installs and seams solid surface countertops, windowsills, and specialty healthcare finishes
- Assists with construction of temporary containment walls and dust barriers to maintain infection prevention standards
- Coordinates work to minimize disruption to medical staff, patients, and facility operations
- Sort and organize components of various work functions
- Installs owner-supplied equipment and fixtures
- Works independently with strong attention to detail and craftsmanship
- Ensures workmanship is accurate and meets healthcare construction quality standards
- Complies with and takes responsibility for all company safety requirements, OSHA standards, and healthcare facility protocols
- Maintains a clean and organized work area in accordance with healthcare cleanliness expectations
- Performs other duties as assigned
Environmental Conditions
- Variance to noise levels, from quiet patient care areas to active construction zones
- Exposure to dust and fumes while following infection control and containment procedures
- Work in occupied healthcare facilities, including patient care and clinical environments
- Work in high exposed places
Physical Demands
- Walking and standing on various surfaces, both indoors and outdoors
- On feet for extended periods, up to 12-hour shifts
- Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, climbing, crawling, balancing, pushing, and pulling
- Manual dexterity including pinching, grasping, grabbing, and holding
- Frequently moves and carries items weighing 50 to100 pounds, with or without assistance
- Requires depth perception with ability to see fine visual details
Qualifications
- Knowledge and adherence to all safety protocols, infection control procedures, and general safe work practices
- Experience working in healthcare, medical, or occupied renovation environments preferred
- Works with a sense of urgency, professionalism, and accountability
- Skilled and/or certified in operating equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, scissor lifts, and manlifts
- Proficient in the use of hand and power tools, including but not limited to table saws, miter saws, and jigsaws
- Demonstrates strong analytical and critical thinking
- Ability to instruct and direct the work of skilled and unskilled laborers
- Ability to identify potential issues and collaborate to resolve them
- Self-motivated to complete assigned tasks according to project schedule and healthcare facility requirements
- Demonstrates progressive responsibility in field knowledge and experience
- Takes a proactive rather than reactive approach to construction and coordination issues
- Self-starter with ability to set goals and prioritize tasks
- Demonstrates strong organizational and planning skills
- May work independently or lead a small group to complete specific tasks or projects
- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in patient care environments
