Ainsworth-Benning to build Sturgis Middle School

The Meade School Board Thursday approved a contract with Ainsworth-Benning Construction to do the renovation which is slated to be completed in time for the start of school next fall. “We thought it was a fair bid,” said Meade School District Superintendent Don Kirkegaard. “Ainsworth-Benning is a very reputable company and they have done a lot of work for the district. The bid was less than our estimate, but more than what the insurance company had estimated.” The base bid for the project was $2,697,000. The company offered an alternative bid of $327,000 to add central air conditioning to the building which the board approved. Construction is to be completed by Aug. 15. Crews from a Sturgis construction company Iverson Construction are nearly complete with the interior demolition work on the middle school building that was damaged during the October 2013 winter storm.
